Just back from the second show now. Do no want to come across smug in anyway, but this is how it played out. I'd been on here all day, and monitoring twitter, umming and ahhing and at 9.45pm decided to get a cab and just go. I got to camden at 10.40pm and the queue was minimal... I must have waited 10-15 minutes with some very friendly people, paid cash on the door (no slips needed!), strolled up to an empty bar, got a drink, turned around and P walked out cool I couldnt have been easier. The set list is as above..... no Bambi though, which was a massive shame personally but it was a f*cking awesome show.... only downer was some of the crowd, they didnt have a clue with recent songs or even old classics, and people around me were dead for call and response. I grabbed a set list and will upload tomorrow... I have the P bug all over again.... biggrin

Now THAT seems like the way to do it. If it pans out for you it's a little down to luck of course, but wouldn't it be great if more of us tried it like that cool [Edited 2/5/14 23:03pm]

So please that so many of you guys got to see the show - or even both shows! Doesnt this bring you back in time to your youth. For those that did queue all day, I admire your tenacity!

As things have been described I'd have to leave the Electric Ballroom at 12:45am at the absolute latest to get back to Waterloo for the "last" 1:05 train back to Southampton. Or sleep on a bench 'til 5:30 lol

That I'm even working this out shows I've still got the sickness haha!

Riiiight. So, second show setlist? Anyone?

I think he started with the same songs as #1 (not sure if it was the same order):

Let go crazy

funk n roll

shes always in my hair

i could never take the place

Guitar

fix ur life up

something in the water(amazing version, started on piano ended with great guitar solo)

Plectrum Electrum

Then (not sure again about the order):

Crimson & Glover

Dreamer

Play that funky music

Prince on bass, instrumental jam which went into

The Max (very very slow version at first)

Purple Rain

Pretzel song on the PA with Prince singing along, then they picked up their instruments, started playing along which went into

Stratus

Sampler madley (WDC, SOTT, HHQ, Hot Thing etc)

Well, that's how I remembered it, may have forgotten one or two. Great stuff, although I was surprised how many people went nuts when he started PR and later when he hit the first notes of WDC, but decided to have loud conversations during Something in the water. Oh well.

Oh wow!

Northern Lurker here...

Was no way I would have got to the gigs last night but just wanted to say its great to see so many fans getting there.

I was at the Koko gig after the announcement of 21 nights and remember the feeling of getting tickets quickly, getting on a train the following day and turning up, almost in a daze that everything was happening so quickly. Then seeing Prince in such a small and intimate venue was the best ever! I've seen him live 10 times in total now, but there is nothing like a small venue!

To do all this in an even more compressed time, and with all the waiting people had to do....

Its great to hear all the tales!

Here's hoping the 'Hit and run' tour hangs around long enough that I can get to one.... wink

What an AMAZING day. I can't hear a thing, my ears are ringing so loud.

Queued all day with some of the nicest people I ever met, including daysofwild (hope you got your car OK). We were in early and he was already on stage, which was nuts. The whole first show was waaaaay too much to take in. Sensory overload. The second show was either better, or i'd just calmed down enough to actually see and feel what was going on. By the time he did the sampler set at the end, the crowd was going completely nuts. Best sample set ever.

The band were amaziing and Prince is like a 20 year old at these small gigs. JUst too much, toooooo much. cool cool cool

I'm going back to bed wink

I think it blew the roof. It was nuts good. In a small room, when WDC came on, I thought I was going to go pop. Housequake too. Awesome.

er

What a night... did that just actually happen? faint

I managed 2 get 2 both shows & feel blessed 2 have had 2 completely different experiences! First show we managed 2 get up front at the barrier. It was surreal seeing the 3rdeyegirl drum kit, Prince's prince mic stand & then all the smoke swirling between the coloured lights! It didn't feel real at all, just can't explain it. Then Joshua came out & played Pretzelbodylogic which was good 2 hear.

We probably waited about 50mins until 3rdeyegirl took the stage at 8pm with Let's go Crazy. When P came on, I kinda froze! Ha ha I always freak myself out when I haven't seen him on stage 4 a coupla years! lol My whole being just goes numb! Lol but only 4 a bit cuz then the music totally melts me! smile That guitar playing was indescribable! Such power! Highlights 4 me were hearing FunknRoll (was great 2 dance 2) ICNTTPOYM- ahhhh, I think I actually started 2 break down during it cuz the intense emotion coming from Prince & his guitar was so strong!! God, it was palpable. Biggest surprise for me was Something in the Water. Usually think it's alright, but what the hell was that last night??? He honestly took us 2 the 5th dimension with him or something cuz that musical experience was unlike anything I've felt!! I felt like he took us on a journey 4 I was soaring within the music! Uh, it was utterly, utterly PHENOMENAL!!! pray Thank u Prince.

I think my head very near exploded when he started the guitar riff 4 Chaos & Disorder!! Holy Moly I don't think I coulda got any higher during that song!! Not many people on the front row seemed 2 know it & I couldn't believe the whole place didn't go wild!! I certainly did & it sure felt freakin amazing 2 hear it live!! excited

The crowd were a bit slow 2 warm up & took about 4 songs in 2 really appreciate what they were witnessing! At the time, I didn't realise about the fiasco that had happened outside so was totally perplexed when he ended so soon! It did feel short, but now I understand why & appreciate why he had 2 stop when he did. Still did make me feel like my heart was breaking tho!!

Those security guards were so rude btw. They pushed my back about 5 or 6 times herding the crowds out & I had 2 tell him to please stop touching me. Go touch the hundreds others that were all milling about too! Another security guy tried 2 throw out a vip member of Prince's crew, right in front of me... Pushed them also & told them 2 get out. He didn't realise WHO he was actually talking to. It was bloody shameful. disbelief

So didn't think I'd get in for 2nd show. Dumped bags at the hotel & wandered back down 2 the Electric ballroom just after 11pm & there was no queue. We sauntered in & Prince had just came on & was playing Let's go crazy!! Really didn't think we'd get back in at all!! Now, if anybody had told me I'd b at a Prince concert & not b up the very front I'd say they were mad. So was first time NOT at the barrier. So it was a completely different experience indeed! But dear God!!!! What a show he put on!! Only good thing about being at the very back was having loads of room 2 dance about, which I did A LOT!! So it was totally amazing! Nearly choked 2 death when P took the bass!!! bawl it was so frickin ahhhhh!!!! Can't describe how delicious & satisfying it was!! drooling Really wished I'd been up front 2 c that, man!

Nearly cried when he played Dreamer & Crimson & Clover. And in the sampler set (which was amaaaaazing!!!) he played The Max!! Omg I was dancing my arse off, only 2 realise a guy with the camera was actually filming the whole thing right behind me! eek He said they were filming 4 Prince!! So Prince, please don't laugh 2 hard if u c a chick freaking out on the dance floor 2 all those songs that I LOVE so, so much! lol Yeah, he'll probably burst out laughing at the nick of me! Lol

So all in all, even though I feel as if he kinda left us hanging on the first show (which I now know why) the second show just blew me outta this world!! Yip, he took me 2 the moon & back once again! 💜A million thank yous & blessings 2 u Mr Nelson!!! 😘

So question is... Is there a show 2nite? All seems pretty quiet about a show. I'll have to back home today if there's no show, but can stay one more night if one is announced. (Keeping my fingers crossed!)

The shows sounded amazing, especially the second one....and I'm super jealous that people just walked straight into the second show with practically now queue, how fantastic! biggrin But....

/

.....the chaos of the unruly queuing for the first show really has put me off. I had a mate who text me last night to say he'd been in the queue for best part of the day, but got shoved to the floor when the crowd surged. He's now nursing a massively swollen left ankle. He didn't get into the first show despite being outside in the rain for almost five hours, and by the time he made it into the second show his ankle was too painful to really enjoy it (though he did say it was still a great show). How Prince's management didn't forsee something like this happening is beyond me. You don't bowl up into Camden with one of the biggest music stars on the planet and not have more than two security guards with bad attitudes policing a crowd like that. Unless they do proper ticket sales, I'm giving this "tour" a miss. I love Prince, but not enough to injure myself or risk doing jail time for chinning someone who pushes into a queue!!

So basically you admit you are one of the wankers that stopped others that had been there for hours waiting to get in.

Kinda.

My wife has been a fan longer than me, we met at the O2 through an org meetup and there was no way I was going to queue up from before 2pm and not have her there with me. She was there in spirit from 2pm and would have been there at that time too had it not been the one day a week that she works and also needed to arrange a baby sitter. She is everything to me, so think whay you will, it means nothing to me smile.

But to address some of your points, others is plural, I stopped one person getting in. If that one person was you, then I am sorry but I could have done what people around me were doing and bringing in 4 or more friends, which I didn't. Nor did I seek out any other orgers and try and cut in myself, I got there when I got there, went to the back and took it from there.

As for the name calling part. My wife is awesome and pretty hot too, so I haven't needed to be one of those in a long time. wink

Everybody around me had multiple people joining them and it was so bad. Friends came, then their friends came and it ended up with more than a dozen extra people just from the people 2 in front and 2 behind. But was it really their fault? Nope. Do I blame any of them? Nope. In fact, they were all really cool people and I had a great time chatting with everyone who did come along.

The reality is that the venue was totally unprepared for last night, it would have been simple to do something like they did for the late show with the slips being handed out. Some time around 2pm there was a guy in a suit, obviousy someone from the Ballroom, talking on the phone about the night before when they came out with Prince and how that was nothing and tonight was going to be really bad. He seemed important and could easily have arranged something, I think he is probably more responsible for what happened than anyone.

So, all things considered, am I sorry? No. Would I do the same again? Yes. Would I have been gutted if all those queueing for 6+ hours in front of me were holding a place for their most loved partner and I didn't get in? No. Would I have been gutted if I didn't get in because all those queuing in front of me called up their mates, who called up their mates and none of them could recite a chorus from anything other than Purple Rain? Fuck yeah.

I agree that it's so much better knowing you've got a ticket, but one positive about doing it this way is cutting out the touts. Better crowd control is the only thing I'd change from last night, maybe barriers all the way up the street.

Funking superb for a tenner.

Sure, I can agree.

But was there anything he hasn't done before?

Please tell...

This is an utterly ridiculous thing to say.

I missed Let's Go Crazy, but assume it was the reloaded version, Funk N Roll, the slowed down Never take The Place Of Your Man, Fix Ur Life Up and Plectrum Electrum, all new to the UK and new to the 3rdEyet tour in general I believe.

Has he ever played Chaos and Disorder in the UK apart from the rock aftershow in 2007? Has he played it more than a handful of times outside of the 3rdEye tour? She's Always In My Hair hasn't been heard live in the UK for a long while, neither has Something In The Water.

Compared to the O2 main shows and the Hop Farm festival show, this show was 100% new.

People here sometimes forget that we live in a slightly skewed world as far as Prince is concerned. We see all of the set lists and listen to most of the boots. It can really distort perspective. Yes the shows had beome a but samey from Musicology to Welcome 2 America but if you really stop and think about it you just can't apply this to the 3rdEye tour.

This is new, this is fresh and boy does it rock. And on top of all that, it was a measley tenner!

True, but I actually consider a queue jumper to be worse than a ticket tout. Least with touts you can still get a ticket if all your other avenues have been exhausted. You can haggle with a tout to, and I find it no worse than being hammered by Ticketmaster for extortionate postage and "ticket handling" fees when tickets are officially on sale. So give me touts over 6 hours standing in the rain, shoving, pushing, and fighting any day of the week! biggrin
